Marion De Vries


Marion De Vries was a United States Representative from California, a Member of the Board of General Appraisers and a Judge for the United States Court of Customs Appeals.

De Vries was born on a ranch near Woodbridge, San Joaquin County, California. He attended the public schools and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree from the San Joaquin Valley College, Woodbridge, California in 1886 and received a Bachelor of Laws degree from the law department of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1888. He was admitted to the bar in 1887 and commenced practice in Stockton, California in 1889. He was the assistant district attorney of San Joaquin County from January 1893 to February 1897 when he resigned, having been elected to Congress.
